The Sacred Spiral

February 20th–25th, Sri Lanka

A five-night women’s retreat of embodied exploration, cultural immersion and deep nourishment for body, mind and spirit.

"The whole universe is based on rhythms. Everything happens in circles, in spirals."

Set amidst the lush landscapes of Sri Lanka, The Sacred Spiral is a retreat into the wisdom of the body and the cyclical nature of life.

Together, we’ll explore what it means to flow with the seasons and cycles of life, finding our own rhythm within the greater rhythms of the natural world.

Through embodied movement, somatics, Yoga, Ayurveda, sound and ceremony, alongside cultural immersion and workshops with local facilitators, we’ll create space for exploration, rest, meaningful connection and self-discovery.

Held by the land, inspired by local wisdom and enriched by the experience of gathering with other women, The Sacred Spiral invites you to arrive as you are and make space for what naturally unfolds.

The intention

We are constantly moving through cycles: expansion and contraction, movement and stillness, letting go and beginning again. Yet so often, the pace of everyday life leave little room to feel these rhythms, let alone live in harmony with them.

The spiral is an ancient and universal symbol, found in shells, unfolding ferns and galaxies, and woven through ancient cultures and traditions as a metaphor for life’s cyclical nature. It offers a different way of exploring our own unfolding.

We often imagine growth as a straight line, always moving forwards. But life rarely works that way. We return to familiar places, revisit old patterns and meet the same questions from fresh perspectives.

The Sacred Spiral is an invitation to step outside the familiar, reconnect with the deeper currents within us and explore our own relationship with change, growth and connection. To immerse ourselves in a new landscape, spend time in nature, move with curiosity and make space for stillness, so clarity can arise naturally.

Meeting the many layers of your being: the physical, emotional, energetic and subtle.

The Experience

Every HartSpaces retreat is a multidimensional experience, thoughtfully curated so that each day builds on the last.

Across five nights, days unfold at an unhurried pace, guided by the natural rhythms of the land. Mornings begin in the open air of the shala, the scent of frangipani drifting in, and daily practices will weave together embodied yoga, somatics, philosophy, movement, meditation and sound.

In between, there is space to swim, wander or simply sit by the lake as the afternoon slows. As the light fades over the water, we will gather for evening practice.

On some days, workshops with local facilitators and cultural excursions invite you into the colours, sounds and flavours of Sri Lanka, led by people we know and trust.

You’re welcomed exactly as you are, with no pressure or expectation, and always free to take what you need.

Our hope is that the nourishment of this experience stays with you long after you return home, continuing to support how you move through life.

Your Sanctuary in Sri Lanka

Set beside the tranquil waters of Koggala Lake in southern Sri Lanka, Kurulu Bay is a five-star boutique sanctuary nestled among lush tropical greenery. This will be our home for five nights: a place where time naturally slows, the surroundings invite you to exhale, and the beauty of the landscape becomes part of the experience.

Enjoy quiet corners for solitude, two pools to soften into and a deck overlooking the lake, where you an enjoy sunset.

Just a short tuk-tuk ride away, golden beaches and the town of Ahangama invite you to explore, wander or simply be with the surrounding landscape in your own time.

Practices take place in the open, airy shala overlooking the lake, surrounded by fragrant frangipani treetops.

A short walk from the shala, you can receive treatments chosen to support rest, regulation and repair. Drawing from both Eastern and Western healing traditions, each session is offered with intuitive care, creating an environment where the nervous system can soften and the body can truly restore.

“Attending Varsana’s yoga retreat at Lanka Yoga in Sri Lanka was a truly transformative experience. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth, wisdom, kindness and an energy that made me feel both grounded and uplifted. Varsana’s teaching is a perfect blend of deep grounded knowledge, gentle encouragement, and guidance—she created a space where all of us, regardless of level, could deepen their practice both physically and spiritually.
